Haiti Earthquake Relief Information
Crawford would like to provide it’s members & supporters with as much information to help them partake in providing relief effort to Haiti. Below is a list of information, which we obtained from various reliable sources. If you have any other information you would like us to share on our blog, please let us know at info@georgecrawfordblackbar.org.
REMINDER: Unfortunately, these times also generate a lot of scams. If you wish to donate to relief efforts please take the time to investigate a charity in advance. The U.S. State Department and the BBB both maintain lists of reputable charities.
Community Organizing Meeting*
- Hartford Councilwoman Veronica Airey-Wilson and businessman Yvon Alexandre are holding a meeting Friday, January 15, 2010, at 6 p.m. at Vibz Uptown Banquet Hall at 3155 Main St., Hartford, to discuss relief efforts for Haiti. Open to the public.
Donating Money or Basic Supplies*
- The Connecticut Haitian American Organization is working to provide relief to the victims of the massive earthquake that devastated different regions of Haiti. The nonprofit organization is working with community, civic and church leaders to collect money and basic supplies for the earthquake victims. Those interested in donating can deposit money into US Webster Bank account #9320266725 with routing #211170101 under the fund named “CT. Haitian Earthquake Relief fund”. The organization also will have barrels at different locations throughout the state where people can drop off non-perishable food items, first aid kits and general items. The following organizations are involved in collecting items: (1) West Indian Social Club in Hartford, (2) Greater Hartford Urban League, (3) Caribbean Trade Council, (4) the city of Hartford, (5) the West Indian Foundation, (6) Hartford Haitian Media-Tele Radio Galaxy Vision, (7) IMA-Inter Ministerial Alliance, (8) CRT-Community Renewal Team and (9) West Hartford Church Of God.
- The Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford is partnering with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee to provide aid and relief to victims.
