2010 Black History Month
Hartford, Connecticut – (February 16, 2010) – The George W. Crawford Black Bar Association (“Crawford”) is pleased to announce its 2010 Black History Month Program, “Celebrating the Contributions of African-Americans from New Haven County.” The program consists of a community service project, a reflection of historical contributions by African Americans in the county of New Haven and a review of current and future leadership opportunites in the county.
The program begins at 8:15 a.m. as members of Crawford will assist the New Haven Community Soup Kitchen in serving breakfast at Saint Luke’s Church. Saint Luke’s Church is located at 111 Whalley Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut.
At 11:00am there will be a presentation at Dixwell Congregational Church, the oldest formally recognized African-American church in the United States of America. The church’s History Committee will lead a discussion on the many contributions by African-Americans from New Haven in shaping Connecticut’s history and development.
The program will conclude at the church with a luncheon presentation starting at noon. Presenting are keynote speakers Attorney Victor Bolden, Corporation Counsel for the City of New Haven (reviewing the history of African-American leadership in the City of New Haven) and Senator Toni Harp (addressing current opportunities for leadership in the city).
