2011 Annual Dinner Honorees
Hartford, Connecticut – (March 1, 2011) – The George W. Crawford Black Bar Association (“Crawford”) is pleased to announce that it will be honoring Sanford Cloud, Jr. with the Second Annual George W. Crawford Visionary Award and Reginald “Reg” R. Paige, Sr. with the Second Annual George W. Crawford Trailblazer Award.
Receiving Crawford’s Visionary Award
In addition to an exceptional career in the practice of law, Mr. Cloud is a former two term State senator who sponsored legislation creating the State’s first Department of Housing. He has been an international philanthropist, formerly serving as the President and Chief Executive Officer of The National Conference for Community and Justice and represented this human relations organization in Jerusalem as a member of President Carter’s delegation to oversee the first Palestinian elections. Mr. Cloud also helped found National Voices for an Inclusive 21st Century, a collaboration of national human relations and civil rights organizations working together to confront bias, bigotry and racism.
Receiving Crawford’s Trailblazer Award
Mr. Paige has been counsel to United Technologies Corp (“UTC”) since 1994 in various business units and currently serves as Associate General Counsel, Operations at Pratt & Whitney. He previously practiced law at White & Case in New York City and at Robinson & Cole in Stamford. Reg was a Thomas J. Watson Fellow, giving him the opportunity to conduct research around the world, including in France, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso. Currently, Reg serves on the boards of the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, the New Britain Museum of American Art and the Loomis Chaffee School.
The recipients have agreed to be recognized during Crawford’s Annual Dinner on April 28, 2011 at The Society Room of Hartford in Hartford, Connecticut. The event will be from 6:00pm until 11:00 p.m. and will include a cocktail reception, live entertainment and dinner. Crawford is a volunteer, state-wide 501(c)(6) non-profit entity of attorneys, judges, and law students in the State of Connecticut and an active affiliate of the National Bar Association. Crawford represents the collective body of Black attorneys in Connecticut, including both the criminal and civil bar and public and private sector employees and spans across law firm, corporate and non-profit affiliations.
